The European Course on the Pathology of Laboratory Animals (EuroPOLA-2009) is organized by the D.E.S.V. in Veterinary Pathology in partnership with the Charles Louis Davis DVM Foundation and the French Society of Veterinary Pathology (S.F.A.P.V.).

The D.E.S.V. (Diplôme d'Etudes Spécialisées Vétérinaires) in Veterinary Pathology is the French post-graduate program in Veterinary Pathology. This program is co-organized by the Departments of Pathology of the four French National Veterinary Schools (Alfort, Lyon, Nantes and Toulouse). This course is part of a series of three rotating courses dedicated to laboratory animal pathology: EuroGEMS (Embryology & Pathology of Genetically Engineered Mice), EuroPOLA (Spontaneous Pathology of Laboratory Animals) and EuroTOXPATH (Toxicologic Pathology). These 4.5 or 5-day courses are organized by the D.E.S.V. in Veterinary Pathology; the French residency and training in veterinary pathology. Each of these courses has been already organized twice since 2002. EuroPOLA-2009 is the third edition of the European Course on the Pathology of Laboratory animals that has been organized for the first time in 2003. Over the years, these courses have gained an excellent reputation for high-quality continuing education at international level.

Goals of the course
EuroPOLA-2009 aims to bring up to date, state-of-the-art information on classic & emerging diseases & issues in the pathology of laboratory animals to pathologists and veterinarians in the field of laboratory animal medicine. Expected participants include practicing veterinarians & pathologists in all areas of laboratory animal medicine. The course content has been designed to be suitable for individuals willing to present European or American board specialty certifications (ECVP/ACVP and ECLAM/ACLAM) as well as for professionals seeking a high quality continuing education conference.

Language
The course will be taught in English.


Audience
The audience of this course will be mainly laboratory animal vets and veterinary pathologists with working experience in the industry and research institutes from Europe (although colleagues from the USA, Canada, India, Japan sometime show up). EuroPOLA is also attended by residents in Veterinary Pathology or Laboratory Animal Medicine preparing for ECVP or ECLAM certifications.

The number of attendees will be limited to about 100 participants.


Venue
The course will be hosted by Institut Pasteur (25, 28 rue du Docteur Roux 75724 Paris CEDEX 15 - FRANCE)

Institut Pasteur is located in near Montparnasse, one of the famous and lively districts of Paris, and is just 15 minutes walk from the Montparnasse Train station.

Equipment
You can bring your presentation on a CD-rom, DVD-rom or USB memory sticks. A laptop PC and a video beamer will be available in the auditorium. The use of your own laptop is not desired.

An overhead projector and laser pointers will be also available. Should you need other specific equipments, please let us know or email contact@europola.com.


Course handouts
The organizers would like to provide attendees with a comprehensive printed handout composed of all course presentations and references (about 800 pages). Therefore, we would like to ask you to send us your presentations (PPT format preferred) at the latest by March 10th, 2009 to allow time for printing.

Unless specifically specified in writing to the course directors, all presentations will be made available on-line on www.EuroPOLA-2009.com just after the meeting.


Travel to Paris
All you travel and meals expenses will be covered by the organizers. These include economy class flights, first class train tickets, taxis, meals and hotel expenses one night before your first lecture and one night after your last lecture. Usually, it is more convenient if you could book your own flights or train tickets. The organizers could make your flight and train reservation should you prefer so.
In any case, please keep all your travel and meal expenses. We will need them to reimburse you. The organizers will not reimburse any personal expenses, or additional hotel nights.

We will book the hotel rooms near the Institut Pasteur for all the lecturers. For this year, we have selected the Meditel (28 boulevard Pasteur, 75015 Paris, Phone: +33 1 45 67 08 77 / Fax: +33 1 40 65 07 24, reception@lemeditel.com. This hotel is very conveniently located next to Institut Pasteur (about 5 min walk).
